Metal vs. Organic Diagnosis

Stop guessing. We identify the exact chemical nature of your pool stains.

Not All Stains Are Created Equal

If you treat an iron stain with chlorine, you will literally bake the stain deeper into the plaster. If you treat a leaf stain with ascorbic acid, nothing will happen. Before we recommend an acid wash or a chemical treatment, we perform strict diagnostic tests to determine exactly what the stain is made of.

Organic Stains

Usually brown or green, these are caused by rotting leaves, acorns, berries, or dead algae sitting on the floor. Organic stains respond excellently to heavy, targeted chlorine shocks and vigorous brushing.

Metallic Stains (Iron & Copper)

Iron looks like rust; copper looks teal, black, or blue. These come from well water, lawn fertilizers, or stripped heat exchangers. We test these using a Vitamin C tablet. If the stain instantly vanishes under the tablet, it is metallic.

Sequestrants and Prevention

Lifting a metal stain is only half the battle. If the metal is still dissolved in the water, it will just stain the pool again next week. We introduce heavy sequestering agents that bind to the metals, holding them in suspension so your filter can catch them before they stick to the plaster.
