Florida Pool Safety Compliance Checklist
Ensure your pool meets the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act (Chapter 515) standards.
The 4 Essential Layers of Protection
Florida law requires layers of safety protection to prevent accidental drowning. Use this checklist to verify your home is compliant.
1. Structural Barrier & Fencing
- 4-Foot Height: Is the barrier at least 48 inches high outside the pool area?
- Gaps/Climbing: Are there no gaps larger than 4 inches?
- Separation: Does the fence completely separate the pool from the home?
2. Self-Closing Gates
- Self-Closing: Does every gate opening into the pool area automatically swing shut?
- Self-Latching: Is the gate equipped with a latch that automatically engages?
- Height Compliance: Is the latch at least 54 inches high?
3. Door & Window Alarms
- Direct Access: Are all doors/windows opening to the pool equipped with alarms?
- Bypass: Can the alarm only be deactivated temporarily by an adult?
4. Emergency & Rescue Gear
- Rescue Device: Is a rescue pole or ring buoy readily visible?
- Emergency Contact: Is 911 info clearly posted?
