Hurricane & Storm Pool Prep Checklist
A crucial guide for protecting your pool and equipment in Vero Beach.
3 Critical Steps Before the Storm
Do not drain your pool! The water provides necessary pressure against ground flooding. Follow these certified steps to minimize debris and structural risk.
1. Secure the Pool Area
- Remove all loose items: Toys, furniture, cleaning tools. Store them indoors.
- Equipment Pad: Turn off all power at the breaker. Wrap pump motors with plastic/tarp.
- Filter/Heater: Cover equipment, but ensure main breaker is OFF.
2. Adjust Water Chemistry
- Balance Water: Drain no more than 1-2 feet. Never drain completely.
- Super-Chlorinate: Shock the pool heavily (10 PPM+) to prevent algae bloom.
- Add Algaecide: Add a preventative dose of quality algaecide.
3. Post-Storm Recovery (DO NOT power on yet)
- Inspect: Clear large debris first. Check electrical boxes for flooding.
- Power: DO NOT turn on power if equipment was submerged. Call us for inspection.
- Filter: Clean the filter immediately once safe power is restored.
