The 5-Year Lifespan Rule

Many pool owners don't realize that a salt cell is a lot like a car battery—it is a consumable item with a finite lifespan. Every time the cell turns on to make chlorine, a microscopic layer of the precious metal coating on its plates is burned away. Once that coating is gone, the cell is dead.

The "False" Low Salt Error

If your pool store tests your water and says your salt is perfectly at 3,200 ppm, but your machine is flashing "Low Salt" and reading 2,000 ppm, your cell is dying. It can no longer hold the electrical amps needed to measure the water correctly.

Why Oversizing is Better

When replacing a cell, we often recommend stepping up a size (e.g., from a 25,000-gallon cell to a 40,000-gallon cell). A larger cell doesn't have to work as hard or run as long to generate the necessary chlorine, drastically extending its lifespan.

OEM vs. Aftermarket

While cheap aftermarket "knock-off" cells exist online, they are notorious for failing within the first year because they use inferior metals. We install genuine OEM equipment from Hayward, Pentair, and Jandy to ensure you get a full 10,000-hour lifespan and valid warranties.
